Learner Profile: Joseph
Joseph started on his Apprenticeship with VEKA after gaining experience within different areas of engineering.
Joseph has always loved engineering and believed that this was the best career choice for him after speaking with a school career coordinator.
During the Covid-19 pandemic, Joseph remained motivated and determined to follow his passion for engineering despite the world going into lockdown. After joining Training 2000’s Apprenticeship Preparation Programme, which is aimed at giving 16 to 18-year-olds the opportunity to develop the skills they need to find and succeed onto an Apprenticeship or into employment, Joseph gained experience with another company before securing his Apprenticeship at VEKA, the UK’s leading PVCU supplier.
During his Apprenticeship and time at Training 2000, Joseph has learnt many skills from project management to CNC (computer numerical control) milling. Joseph plans to continue working at VEKA and is excited to progress and develop further in his role.
Joseph’s Training Officer, Beth, commented: ‘Joseph is a very capable and engaged learner who strives to make the most of the time, equipment and tutor knowledge available to him whilst at Training 2000.
He is working exceptionally hard to complete a stretch and challenge task for VEKA whilst also ensuring he is up to date with the block assessments he needs to complete’.
"I have always loved engineering, it is the best career choice for me."
— Joseph, VEKA UK
Apprenticeship and Training Coordinator at VEKA plc, Paul Ashdown, commented that: ‘Joseph is a student with great aspirations to achieve within an Engineering environment. Joseph was initially employed with our group of Level 2 Manufacturing Apprentices, however he showed the potential and capability to embark on a Level 3 Engineering qualification and so enrolled with Training 2000.
Since joining Training 2000 we have seen Joseph unlock his hands-on skills and he is achieving great things. Following first year placement Joseph will join our Manufacturing Engineering Team to support innovative manufacturing solutions.’
When reflecting on his Apprenticeship journey so far and his next steps, Joseph said: ‘I want to move on to eventually get chartership and become a Chartered Engineer’.
When discussing what Joseph would say to people who might be considering an Apprenticeship, his advice is to ‘not focus too hard on the company, you can succeed anywhere you go’.
